The simple past used to talk about an action that ended in a time previous to the current one. The duration is not relevant. The time in which is situated the action may be the recent past or a distant past.

Forms
To use past simple in English There are some regular and irregular verbs.
For regular verbs add "ed" at the end of the word.
For the verbs ending in "y" is replaced with "ied"
For some verbs must take into account the consonant and vowel such as shop => shopper
